What to expect at the tip

Reading tips take wood, but only up to a limit, and the charge is £3.20 a bag. A shed is a lot of wood, so you may need several bags and several trips.

If you plan to use a van, you need a permit first. The Reading tips page covers booking, vans and what they take.

Before you get rid of a shed

Do

  • Empty it completely, including shelves and corners
  • Check the roof felt, glass and panels, and sort them from the wood
  • Take photos from a few angles if you want a price
  • Check any waste carrier is registered with the Environment Agency

Don't

  • Leave it for someone else to remove without agreeing it
  • Pay a stranger cash who offers to take it with no paperwork
  • Turn up at the tip in a van without a permit
  • Burn treated wood or felt in your garden
